Biography - Curriculum Vitae
The C.V below is not a full account of my previous life but rather a diving related curriculum, as diving has been and become such a gravitational activity in my life.
Andreas W. Matthes a.k.a. Matt was born in Germany March 13th, 1963 in the town of Wolfsburg to mom Christa and dad Wolfgang. Graduating from secondary school in 1978 and a technician school in 1981 he moved on to studying art and photography in Braunschweig in end of 1990. After traveling in 1987-88 to Central America, Mexico and the U.S.A. for 7 month he returned to Germany for a short sting before leaving to Africa 1989-90 for a year long trip.
His life long dream of scuba diving finally came true in 1991. Not surprisingly, when diving became a big part of his life he moved on to Thailand in 1992 to pursue his diving career and life long dream.

Matt is the founding member of the ProTec Advanced Training Facility in Mexico as well as the Yucatan Deep Speleological Dive Team, is holding the positions as the Dive Rite representative for Mexico – Central America - Cuba and is the owner of the IANTD licensee for Mexico – Central America – Cuba.
Along with the daily operations of the ProTec Training Facility in Playa del Carmen that includes teaching and administrational issues, the representative issues of Dive Rite and the IANTD licensee issues Matt is the training director and special projects director of ProTec Incorporation Worldwide.
Originally from Germany he has lived, worked and dived throughout Germany, Thailand, Honduras, Egypt, Northern and Southern United States, Solomon Islands, Eastern Caribbean, Belize, Pacific and Eastern Mexico.
Matt has been training divers since early 1993 and has certified hundreds of divers, Instructors and Instructor Trainers to various levels of diving and training. Some of the favorite locations that Matt currently guides and teaches include the deep walls off Cozumel, the caves and caverns of the Riviera Maya, the Deep Caves of Yucatan, the deep walls of the Honduran Bay Islands and wrecks and deep walls along the Mexican Pacific coast.
Matt is teaching courses in German, English, and Spanish. His community work as the training officer locally for IANTD puts him in the front line of regional developments and he is a regular contributor to global cave and rebreather diving discussions. Matt as well has contributed to the Mexican Government approved APSA Cavern Guide program regulating the Cenote diving operations including the conservation of the natural recourses of Mexico’s Caverns and Caves.
